This Winter is Warm

Opossums have never inhabited VT before but are now here because of the warming seasons.  Their coats are thin and not capable of handling our harsh winters. Even though it's been freakishly warm here (50-60 degrees in December?!!??) I decided I better boost my doily sweater inventory, so we can all be warm when the weather finally turns.

These sweaters are for sale at Revolution

I found the original sweaters at the Richmond Thrift Shop.  Amazingly, this little gem of a store is right down the street from my house.  The appliqued doilies are ones I have collected over time, all are antiques, some date back to the 1800s!

Sweet Applique

I found these cloth calendar wall hangings with some great graphics on them, all months from the year 1969.  I cut out a few of the best and created some sort of living room on this thrifted sweater.  This is for sale at Clothing Line in Burlington, VT.

VT Irene Recovery Fund

50% of proceeds from this dress will be donated to http://www.vtirenefund.org/ to help out small businesses that were damaged from the flood! My home state was hit hard, many homes and businesses were destroyed. This is just one of many things I can do to help.

I made this dress out of a vintage sweater. It is super stretchy and comfortable, and looks great with leggings or tights! I appliqued a vintage wall hanging of a snowy covered bridge that reminds me of Vermont on to the dress.

This dress would best fit a small or medium, and someone under 5'6". Hand washing is recommended, to preserve the age and delicacy of the applique.

Vests are fantastic because....

...they are multi-season!!  Imagine this over a tank top or a long sleeved shirt... it works.  I had to post this one because of the front pocket detail; it's an amazing vintage hankie I scored.

This vest is for sale at Revolution in White River Junction.

Attest to the Vest

My friend Irene gave me this killer vintage vest that I can't get enough of.  I was looking for something new to do with my doilies, and realized that putting them onto vests as backs and pockets would be a blast.  I'm attaching hoods too, because all fun clothing should have a hood.

STRUT Preview

I am gearing up for STRUT, the South End Arts and Business Association Fashion Show as part of the annual Art Hop.  This weekend celebration is bigger to some of us than traditional holidays, with months preparation and anticipation.  Here is a preview of the collection I have been working on for STRUT 6, on September 10th, 2011.

Fall Reconstruction Preview

I love these 1950s style dresses, but I love them even more when I hem them and give them a whole new "contemporary" shape.  The fabric and patterns from that era are amazing!  This dress will be for sale at Revolution in White River Junction, VT.
